Tech Tip: Swapping Maintenance Tanks on Epson Printers

Epson recently ran out of maintenance tanks for their popular 24” and 44” printers for a short period. And when your maintenance tank is full, your printer is no longer usable. While this problem is now resolved, we were reminded of a “pro tip” you can use in a pinch.

With 44” printers like the P9000/P9570 there are both left and right maintenance tanks. The right is the “primary” tank, used for catching excess ink during the head cleaning process.

The left tank is used only for catching extra ink used during the borderless printing process. These do not typically fill up even once during the life of the printer. So if your maintenance tank is getting full and giving a warning, you can simply swap left and right and keep on happily printing. If you have a mixed fleet of 24” (P7000/P7570) and 44” printers this trick will also work, since these models use interchangeable maintenance tanks.
